Fun in the Sun: Top Toddler-Friendly Activities in Cabo San Lucas

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

Cabo San Lucas is a beautiful destination with a range of activities suitable for people of all ages. If you are planning a family vacation with toddlers in Cabo San Lucas, you'll find that there are plenty of things to do that will keep your little ones entertained. There are a few things to keep in mind before you plan your trip. Here are some of the top activities to enjoy with toddlers in Cabo.

1. Beach Time: Cabo San Lucas has some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, and there are plenty of kid-friendly options. You can head to Playa El Médano, where the water is calm and shallow, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. You can also take a boat to the quieter Lover's Beach or Divorce Beach, where you can have some quality family time while enjoying the stunning views.

Must Haves For the Beach (these are my favorites- links are included):

2. Visit the Cabo Dolphins Center: Kids love dolphins, and the Cabo Dolphins Center offers an amazing experience for toddlers. The center offers a variety of programs, including dolphin encounters, where your toddler can swim and interact with dolphins in a safe and controlled environment.

3. Explore the Marina: The marina in Cabo San Lucas is a bustling hub of activity with plenty of shops, restaurants, and boats. Take a stroll with your little one along the boardwalk and enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. I recommend having a stroller if you have little ones because it can be a long and warm walk.

4. Whale Watching: If you're visiting Cabo San Lucas during the winter months, take your toddler on a whale watching tour. The tours typically take place from December to April when gray whales migrate to the area. Your little one will be amazed to see these majestic creatures up close.

5.Glass Boat Ride: An amazing experience traveling to the famous Cabo San Lucas arch on a glass boat enjoying the breeze while watching the fish pass on the floor of the boat. The excursion provides life vests of all sizes. The tour guide will pause at the arch and assist taking pictures. The kids absolutely loved watching the waves and marine life go by below their feet.

6. Pirate Dinner Ship: The kids absolutely loved the pirate ship excursion. The ship travels to the famous Cabo San Lucas arch and navigate through the ocean for a few hours. There are various times the ship docks, however, I recommend the night time show because it includes dinner and a show. The show is a funny and interactive fire act with dancing, fire, swords and of course, pirates! The dinner included barbecue chicken, corn, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, bread rolls and an all-you-can-eat open bar. We ended the night with a party DJ, music, dancing and lots of fun!

7. San Jose del Cabo: This is completely separated from Cabo San Lucas and has a very different vibe. San Jose del Cabo is a colonial historical district with beautiful architecture. The main street is filled wits delicious restaurants, artisan shops, and boutiques. There are Ubers that can take you from Cabo to San Jose, but be mindful there are not many Ubers strolling through San Jose for your return. We asked our Uber drive to stay in San Jose and we would text him when we were ready to head back.

Where to Stay:

We decided to stay at Hacienda Encantada Resort and Residences because of the spacious rooms, various food options, and the children’s pool area! I will say, the resort is on the higher price range but we spent most of our time here and it was worth it. We did not pay for the all-inclusive and had a kitchen in our sweet instead. There is a convenience store inside the resort where we purchased a few groceries to make breakfast and snacks. We mostly ate while being out and about.

The resort is also very large and difficult to travel around by foot so the resort has continuous golf carts driving people around. Lastly, the resort (as most hotels in Cabo) does not have an actual beach front, though it is on the beach. We took an uber ride to the beach of our choice outside the resort.

Pro Tip: Make sure to tip your bellboys good because they will take care of you- from having carts readily available, calling timely Ubers, providing additional support and extra accommodations to ensure a seamless vacation.

The Weather:

Cabo San Lucas is on the warmer side and fairly humid. We traveled in August/September and enjoyed being in the water the entire time. There was no rain during the time we were there. Make sure to bring sun screen, a hat, and drink lots of water to stay hydrated!

Lastly, I highly recommend booking a professional photographer and take advantage of the beautiful Cabo beaches and sunsets. We found our photographer from Airbnb and she did our family photoshoot in our hotel with the beautiful views. She sent us our photos a few weeks after we got back home and they made perfect canvasses for our home!

Cabo San Lucas is a great destination for a family vacation with toddlers. There are plenty of activities to enjoy, from beach time to visiting the Cabo Dolphins Center and exploring the marina. Make sure to plan your trip well in advance and have a great time!
