Magical Memories: Planning a Vintage Disneyland-Themed Birthday Party for Your 2-Year-Old Princess

A Disneyland-themed birthday party can be a magical way to celebrate your little girl's 2nd birthday. With some careful planning and creativity, you can create a memorable and fun-filled day that your little one will cherish for years to come. Here are some tips to help you plan the perfect Vintage Disneyland-themed birthday party for your 2-year-old girl.

The Venue:

Choose a venue: The first step is to choose a venue for the party. Consider hosting the party at party hall or even in your own backyard depending on the weather. You can decorate the space to create a magical Disneyland atmosphere.

Emilia’s birthday is at the end of January and the weather is sometimes cold and windy during that time so we decided on a hall. The party we chose is in El Paso, TX and its called Beyond Fantasy which is already decorated with Disney murals and decorations making it perfect for this theme!

Invitations:

Send out invitations that feature your little girl's favorite Disney characters. You can also include Disney-inspired wording, such as "Join us for a day of magic and fun in Disneyland!" I used “The Happiest Birthday On Earth.”

I like creating private Facebook events to invite everyone, send reminders and updates on the party. It’s a great way to thank everyone afterwards and share pictures with the invitees. I like creating my own digital invitations and sharing them via the Facebook invite or text them to anyone who does not have Facebook. I design my own, however, a great option for custom digital invitations is Etsy.

Pro Tip: Make sure to include your child’s clothing size and shoe size for gifts. I always like to go a size bigger than what they are currently wearing to start building their next wardrobe.

Decorations:

Decorate the space Create a magical Disneyland atmosphere by decorating the party space with Disney-inspired decorations, such as Mickey Mouse ears, balloons, and centerpieces. You can even create a "castle" out of cardboard boxes and decorate it with glitter and streamers.

The centerpieces I made were baby breath flowers with an image of different Disneyland rides such as Main Street, Toy Story Mania, It’s a Small World, and more. I used had Minnie and Mickey ears for all the kids and designed shirts similar to the invitations.

Activities:

Plan fun activities that your little girl and her guests will enjoy. You can set up a "princess" station, where the girls can dress up in Disney princess costumes and have their pictures taken. I had a face-painting station for the kids with Disney-theme designs included.

A great option is hiring a show that includes and entertains adults and children. Some great options are a magic show, character appearances, or a cute clown. For this party, I hired a magician who had games with prizes for the kids and included the adults in comedy and engagement with their children. Mickey Mouse showed up to dance with the kids, took pictures and sang happy birthday during the cake cutting. I always invite characters and the kids LOVE it! Go check out some of my other blogs for the different party themes I’ve hosted.

The venue included 2 large jumping balloons for older kids and one small toddler-size jumping ballon. It also included a foosball table, video games, and a movie theatre for adults and older kids. A carousel and toddler cars and toys for the younger ones.

I put together a music playlist to set the mood and filled a Minnie Mouse piñata with candy for the kids. At the end of the party, I handed out candy bags that were all different Disney characters.

The Food:

Serve Disney-inspired food Serve food that is inspired by Disneyland, such as hot dogs and popcorn, churros, Dole Whip, and Mickey Mouse-shaped cookies. You can also serve drinks in Disney-themed cups and create a Disney-inspired cake for your little girl.I highly recommend hiring a Taquiza (a taco cart) to cook and serve the food warm and allowing you to enjoy the party without worrying about feeding your guests.

I like ordering three different cakes instead of one large one. My party is prepared for 100 people so I usually order 3 cakes for 30 people each. This allows for different flavors and designs to decorate your dessert table.

For the dessert table I ordered Disneyland theme cookies that included churros, mickey pretzels, Minnie ears, the Disney band with Emilia’s name on it Disney ice cream. I also had cotton candy bags with Mickey printed on the bags. Lastly, I filled the dessert table with different types of Mexican candy.

Party Itinerary:

If you are hosting the party in your home, there aren’t any time restrictions and can host however long you’d like. I recommend 4-6 hours for a birthday party. Most party halls will book your event for only 4 hours and some allow you to pay extra for another hour. This itinerary example is for a 4-hour party.

Example 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM:

11:00 AM- 12:00 PM- Your guests will begin arriving. The kids can go play on the jumping balloons and you will be welcoming your family and friends.

12:00 PM -2:00 PM- Serve food: Most Taquizas or caterers are booked for 2 hours of serving and eating time. They will leave any left over food after they leave.

1:00PM - 2:00 PM- Entertainment: I like scheduling the show and entertainment towards the end of the food serving time to allow for adults to eat while also watching the show. This allows the adults to eat in peace while the kids are entertained.

2:00 PM- 2:30 PM- Cake cutting: I like cutting the cake right after the show ends because I usually have a character present and they can take pictures with the cake.

2:30 PM- 3:00 PM- Piñata : Line the kids up and break the piñata while everyone eats their cake. I usually have my family help me cut and give out the cake while I help the kids with the piñata. As the party comes to an end, I give a than you speech to all my guests and hand out the candy bags.
